MOUNTAIN TROOP

Mountain Troop are responsible for all the SAS mountaineering and skiing operations.

All expert skiers and mountain climbers, the members of mountain troop are also skilled in arctic survival and cold weather warfare.

Most of their training takes place in Europe, particularly in Norway and Germany, home of the world renowned German Alpine Guides Course. the SAS send two men a year to attend this year long course which dedicates 6 months to skiing and 6 months to climbing. Several members of Mountain Troop have climbed Everest. Normally one of the squadrons will be committed to the NATO winter exercise in Norway.
